me
i went back to the beginning, well quite a ways back anyway, to begin this website. these first albums are bits and pieces of my journey into photography(by no means complete). it started at the beginnings of my memory and has been there ever since. at first with not near the intensity it is now in my life but a presence that was never missing. it was always an element in one form or another: brownie, kodak instamatic…those old blue bulbs i used to screw into my flash, then flash cubes and pocket cameras…so many point and shoots, polaroids…what fun at a party and now digital and pinhole and holga…what fun toys…what good friends. i love my cameras. most special to me, my nikon f, my first slr, was given to me by my father, the inspiration of my photography. through my journey i have come to see that i have an eye that does not mirror his but reflects it over and over again. its uncanny the things i see now. so back to my roots and my very first prints in the dark room, photograms, alchemy, magic, this is what it seemed to me. the darkroom was a place of magic for me for quite awhile, still is now, just not the same magic. i just looked again at my first prints in the dark room those photograms, and they were well, they were of a kokopelli indian made of pipe cleaners, a fruiting tree branch, a bird flying to a tree limb, a shark swimming through the water and some shells i collected from the beach. this is where my understanding of photography truly began, my first realization of what light really means. i have my teacher shawn i can never thank enough for that, for my understanding of light. i remember my grandfather trying to explain to me that nothing really has any color. that it is only the light reflecting from things that gives them their color. i still struggle to grasp this concept but its meaning is clear to me now. light gives us our vision and with it we are able to share our vision. the world is my palette, the shutter my brush, my canvas and paint varied. enough for now i could write forever and never get to editing more photos. so welcome, enjoy the journey, come visit anytime.
p.s. this website is made possible by my web designer greg artime. thank you greg for making it possible.
